Homeward Bound Dog Rescue is a 501(c)3 non-profit, all-volunteer animal rescue that saves homeless and abandoned dogs from euthanasia. Our main goal is to find a good home for the dogs currently held in the Hinton, Geary, and Binger Municipal Pounds and provide the proper vaccinations and spay/neuter before the adoption occurs. We also work with the community to reunite lost dogs with their families.
Adoption Program
So many of these dogs end up in shelters when they are AMAZING animals and just need a second chance at life. We ask the public to please consider looking at your local shelters and pounds and consider to adopt and NOT shop!
Cost: Adoptions through Homeward Bound is $95 (unless additional vetting or fees are incurred and must be applied (dental as an example)). This amount includes the spay/neutering, vaccinations, microchipping, and worming.
See dogs available for adoption on our Facebook page at Homeward Bound OK. When you are ready to meet one of these furry friends please call to set up an appointment by emailing [email protected].
Spay & Neuter Procedures
We strive to reduce the number of unwanted dogs by ensuring the animals adopted through our rescue are spayed/neutered before they go to their new home.
One of the most important things you can do for your animal is to spay/neuter your pet. It is unimaginable how full every shelter and rescue group is with unwanted and abandoned dogs. According to the ASPCA, an unspayed female usually goes into heat twice yearly. If a dog has a litter of 4 puppies and goes on to have the same number of pups twice a year for 6 years, this can lead to 67,000 puppies.
Volunteer Program
Currently there are 6 volunteers that give hours each week to help clean cages, feed and water, and exercise the animals at the Hinton Municipal Dog Pound. If you are over the age of 18 and would like to apply as a volunteer at the pound, an application can be picked up at the Hinton Town Hall. Every volunteer application must be approved by the Animal Control Officer
